Upgrading of Waste Water Treatment Units in South Pars Gas Plants

Client
Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC)

Period :
2023 Feb - 2024 Jan

Location :
South Pars Gas-Condensate field

Type of Project :
Designer and consultant

The South Pars gas field is one of the largest gas fields located on the border of Iran and Qatar in the Persian Gulf. Currently, projects have been defined for the development of this gas field in 13 refineries located in Asalouye and Kangan in Bushehr province, Islamic Republic of Iran. Considering the problems in the wastewater treatment units (WWT) of each gas refinery, Pars Oil and Gas Company, in order to meet the discharge requirements set by the Iranian Environmental Organization, in March 1401 signed a contract to "provide conceptual and basic design engineering services for Improvement and upgrade of wastewater treatment units in South Pars gas power plants" has signed the contract with Omrab Engineering Company. Considering the composition of wastewater produced from refineries, which includes Spent Caustic, Oily Water, Stripped Sour Water and Sanitary wastewater, the wastewater treatment units of the refineries (unit 129) do not perform well, and with technical investigations, it isn’t possible to improve these units. and the design of other basic and infrastructure units is on the agenda as described below. In site one (Assalouye), due to the existence of suitable infrastructures including the required land, corridors for transporting wastewater through pipes and the required electricity supply, a centralized treatment plant with a capacity of 425 m3/hr has been considered to treat the wastewater of 8 refineries. In site two (Kangan), due to the impossibility of building a centralized treatment plant due to the lack of suitable infrastructure, including sufficient land, the distance between the refineries, and the lack of a corridor for transporting wastewater through pipes, it was decided to build three treatment plants with a capacity of 164 m3/hr (for refineries no. 9 and 10), 131 m3/hr (for refineries 11 and 12) and 70 m3/hr (for refineries no. 13) have been taken.
